The aim – to develop the scientific and technical principles of protection of structural metals from corrosion damage in ionic liquids by giving the recommendations for the practical use of the experimental results and laboratory tests. Research methods – electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, gravimetry, profilometric research. It is shown that the rate of corrosion of mild steel in the Ethaline and Reline solvents depends on the external conditions under which the corrosion process and the conditions for preliminary preparation of the steel material. It has been established that the preliminary electrochemical polishing of mild steel allows to reduce the rate of corrosion in ionic liquids, and as a high-performance electrolyte polishing, it is possible to use the Ethaline solvent without additional water and with a small amount of it. It was found that the additive to the content of Ethaline and Reline surfactants affect the rate of corrosion of mild steel in the solvents. Recommendations on the practical use of the results of experimental and laboratory tests for the protection of structural metals from corrosion damage in ionic liquids have been developed.
