The purpose of the work is to determine the correlation between the change of climatic gradients and the variability of steppe plant communities, the identification of indicator species groups and prediction of the impact of climate change on steppe ecosystems. A database of vegetation plots of steppe vegetation of Ukraine has been created, which includes 6912 descriptions, of which 4010 - with precise geographic landmarks, syntaxonomic and geographic stratification have been made, resulting in 3,148 descriptions and 36,463 localities of steppe vegetation, and classification of steppe vegetation in Ukraine has been made. The basic syntaxonomic units were discovered and the ecological amplitudes of species were evaluated with 19 bioclimatic factors for modeling and GIS. As a result, indicator groups of species, the distribution of which mostly correlated with climatic gradients. For some of the most common species from each climatic group, as well as for groups of species and syntaxonomic units, the modeling of modern and predicted distribution has been carried out, and a mapping of the current and projected distribution of indicator species and their combinations in Ukraine has been made.
