There are many legislative acts that deal with the protection of these animals. The main of them is the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), or the Bonn Convention, which Ukraine also signed. Countries that are parties to Bonn Convention must ensure strict protection of these species, preservation or restoration of their places of existence, etc. Among the agreements and memorandums dealing with the protection of migratory animals, there are AEWA (Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds), EUROBATs (Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats), ACCOBAMS (Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and contiguous Atlantic Area), etc. An important part of the requirements of legislative acts is the carrying out of educational work aimed at disseminating information about the need to protect animals, in particular migrants, among the population. The task has become one of the main in preparing the contents of the Encyclopedia. The Encyclopedia includes species of Pisces, Aves and Mammalia. Species of Amphibia and Reptilia do not carry significant moving in Ukraine. The main criteria to include species in the Encyclopedia were as follows: species is in the fauna of Ukraine, species carries out regular or irregular (invasive) migration movements, nomads (moving at several dozen kilometers or more). The basis of the publication is species descriptions containing the following: taxonomic characteristics of the species, protection status of the species, distribution (in particular, in Ukraine), numbers and trends, features of biology and migration, with the analysis of ringing data and cartographic material, safeguards and conservation recommendations.
