The modern development of Ukrainian psychology is oriented on satisfaction of practical request for the development of theoretical and appliсation areas of science according to legal and social reality. Law enforcement activity is not an exception, which also requires usage of special psychological knowledge for qualitative fulfillment of its tasks. One of the most demanded forms of participation of a psychologist in pre-trial investigation and trial is his involvement in the procedural status of a forensic expert. At the same time, forensic psychological examination in Ukraine as a direction of constantly developing scientific and practical activity, according to modern requirements, needs an updating of a methodological apparatus sufficient to fulfill all practical queries. A forensic expert-psychologist in his professional activities bears a great responsibility, since psychological examination is an extremely complex type of forensic examination. Consequently, there is a neccessity to create a modern methodological basis for forensic psychological examination, adhering the requirements of science and legislation. In this regard the Expert Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs created a general methodology of forensic psychological expert research (hereinafter - the Methodology). The Methodology is a general algorithm for the sequence of actions of a forensic expert-psychologist to conduct a psychological study of it regardless of the type. A detailed algorithm of actions of an expert psychologist while performing certain types of psychological research involves the further development of a special part of the Methodology.
