It was established that no significant hydride reorientation occurs in the dummy fuel rod claddings with a hydrogen concentration below 200 ppm (the threshold stress for initiation of intensive hydride reorientation is ≥58 МPа). At a hydrogen concentration above 200 ppm, Zr-1%Nb claddings have a strong tendency to hydride reorientation. It was shown that changes from tangential to radial hydride orientations do not decrease their plasticity. The effect of hydrogen and hydride orientation on the cladding tube fatigue strength was investigated. At room temperature, the fatigue strength of Zr-1%Nb claddings with increasing hydrogen concentration up to 400 ppm increases. It was shown that at 20 °С and 180 °С, hydrogen reorientation does not affect the fatigue resistance of Zr-1%Nb claddings and decreases their fatigue strength at 350 °С. It was also found that at a temperature of 410 °С and a concentration of 100…300 ppm, hydrogen decreases the creep strength of Zr-1%Nb claddings.
