A series of studies was carried out on a model chamber with 4 plasma sources with a different location, a planetary rotating mechanism with tubes – models of the fuel claddings. Optimization of operating modes of chromium plasma sources allows of coatings deposition at a speed of at least 1.5–2 µm/hour, with the thickness unevenness not more 15%, which is quite acceptable for creating barrier layers on a fuel cladding. As a result of the research, a model of equipment for the deposition of protective coatings on fuel elements has been developed.
