Komisarenko Institute of Endocrynology and Metabolism of the National Academy of Medical Science of Ukraine" popup.description2 Object of the study: the epidemiology of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D), detected by screening (SDDM); hyperglycemic categories - isolated impairment of glucose tolerance (i-IGT) or fasting plasma glucose (i-IFG) and their combination revealed due to the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) among the rural population of Ukraine;T2D risk factors. The purpose of the study was to establish the prevalence of SDDM, assess the anthropometric, age, and other risk factors for the inhabitants of rural settlements in Ukraine. Assessment of T2D prevention methods. Research methods: observational observations and cross-sectional assessments, questionnaires, anthropometric measurements and OGTT with determination of plasma glucose and urine levels; measurement of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), length of telomeres of leukocytes (LTL). An interventional study on the effectiveness of preventive counseling provided. Results: SDDM according OGTT was found in 21.0% of adults with a median age of 59.0 (49,0-70,0) yrs. 7.8% of this population sample confirmed T2D according HbA1c data. Anthropometric risk factors for SDDM and both IFG and i-IGT are described. An increase in glycemia in OGTT (2hPG) but not fasting glycemia (FPG) increases the chance of detecting shorter telomeres. The connection between LTL and age became statistically significant only after standardization by the level of fasting plasma glucose levels. The presence of a metabolic syndrome is associated with the risk of having shorter telomeres. People with pre-diabetes received prevention advices and was observed for T2D development. T2D risk reduction was found for those who followed the preventive advice. Product Description popup.authors Данилюк В.Г. Ковтун В.А. Кравченко В.І. Красніков В.І. Опанасенко О.М. Охріменко Н.В.
