In order to increase the export of glycerin from S. cerevisiae cells to the environment, a vector for the expression of a shortened form of the FPS1 gene (encoding a modified membrane transporter of glycerol) was introduced into the S. cerevisiae gene under the control of the ADH1 promoter . Subsequently, all of these mutations weree combined in the genome of one recombinant S. cerevisiae strain. The resulting best producer synthesized 9 times more glycerol in microaerobic conditions and 4.7 times more glycerol in anaerobic conditions when compared with a wild strain BY4742.
