However, between this varieties were practically no differences in the reaction to drought at the anthesis stage. The stress-induced decrease in photosynthesis in both varieties was greater at the anthesis stage than at the stem elongation stage. It was revealed a significant increase in photorespiration and activity of antioxidant enzymes under drought conditions, that correlated with a maintenance of the leaves photosynthetic function. The damaging effect of insufficient moisture on the grain productivity of plants of both varieties was greater under the influence of stress at the anthesis stage than at the stem elongation stage, and was also more pronounced in variety Natalka than in variety Astarta. In the conditions of field experiment, a close positive correlation was found between the grain yields of new varieties and promising lines of winter wheat and the capacity of their photosynthetic apparatus in the period of reproductive development.
