Registration Date 04-02-2019 Organization Institute of cell biology and genetic engineering NAS of Ukraine popup.description2 Report on SRP: 53 pages, 13 figures, 7 tables, 55 references. The object of investigation - medicinal plants Digitalis purpurea L., Hypericum perforatum, Oc?mum basil?icum. The aim of research - developing of radiation biotechnology increasing produce of secondary metabolites in medicinal plants. The methods of investigation - acute radiation exposure of plants (both seeds and in vitro), plant cultivation both in vitro and in field, quantitative and qualitative techniques to determine secondary metabolites in plant extracts, statistical. The range of plant hormesis doses was calculated. According to last-three-year investigation of acute X-radiation plant exposure effect in laboratory and open field using doses: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 35, 50 Gy the interval 10-35 Gy was stated as increasing production of secondary metabolites in medicinal plants. Quantitative sum flavonoid amount in ethanol extracts from Digitalis purpurea L. and Hypericum perforatum was carried using spectrophotometer. According to this dose curves of flavonoid yield recalculated to rutin were obtained that indicated stimulative effect of acute both gamma- or X-radiation exposure (10 and 35 Gy) to flavonoid synthesis in Hypericum perforatum. For other plants stimulative doses are: 10-25 Gy. Analising extracts from Hypericum perforatum using high-effective liquid chromatography did not indicate new compound that confermed safety of the human health. Thus increasing plant biomass, both phenol and ethanol compound due to presowing radiation exposure was observed for all examined plants. Recommended stimulative doses of presowing seed radiation exposure are different for other plants, nevertheless they are in range 10 - 35 Gy. According to obtained data the patent for an utility model № 129749 "Method increasing flavonoid content in medicinal plant raw material through pre-sowing seed radiation exposure" was obtained.
