In the course of the research the theoretical and methodological principles of the expansion of financial autonomy of institutions of higher education are determined. During the reporting period, the research was carried out on the following issues: analysis of the theoretical basis of the economic activity of universities as autonomous institutions in a modern market economy; analysis of the results of the economic activity of higher education institutions on the basis of determining their place in the Ukrainian economy in comparison with similar indicators in the countries of the European Union (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland), the United Kingdom and the USA; analysis of legal regulators of the economic activity of universities as subjects (autonomous institutions) of a market economy in the world and the EU; analysis of the measurement of the results of the economic activity of universities as subjects (autonomous institutions) of the modern market economy in the world, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, USA; analysis of the methodological foundations of the economic activity of universities as autonomous institutions in a market economy in the world, EU countries (Germany, France, Poland), the United Kingdom, USA; foreign and domestic experience of the functioning and regulation of legislative, normative, financial, institutional, methodological and personnel provision of the university as an autonomous institution.
