The object of the study is the history of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy (NAA). The subject of the study is the historical traditions of the military school in Western Ukrainian lands, the formation and development of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy during the years of Ukraine's independence. The purpose of the research is studying of the history of Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy. Research methods are analysis and synthesis, as well as comprehensive application of general scientific methods: historical, logical, systematization, etc.; actually historical: the method of "oral history", chronological, typological, problem-chronological, comparative-historical, biographical, and the others. Research results: analysis of NAA complexes and types of historical sources, using new and unpublished archival documents, involving statistical materials, memoirs and periodicals of that period; interviewing by "oral history" method veterans of the NAA. Historical sources were classified according to their thematic and chronological features. The main historical stages and ways of development of the didactic, educational and scientific processes in the NAA are clarified. Historical events from the end of the nineteenth century to 2018, which took place in the history of the NAA were reconstructed. The participation of didactic staff, graduates, cadets of the Academy in counteraction armed aggression of the Russian Federation in 2014-2018 is highlighted. The newness of scientific results is the implementation into the scientific circulation previously unpublished documents and materials of the NAA history, the formation of a historical link to regional studies in the city of Lviv and the region. A new methodological approaching "oral history" was used in the research. Standing Soviet myths and propaganda "pro-Kremlin cliches" about the history of the NAA are refuted, a new conception of the history of the Lviv Higher Education Institution has been formed. Implementation of the results in the educational process involves the use of research materials in the teaching of the subject "History of Ukraine" for NAA cadets, during educational activities, national patriotic upbringing of future officers.
