The ellipticity for given field configurations is calculated. In the case of a laser emf generator, the observed effect may be an order of magnitude greater than its value for the conditions of the PVLAS experiment. In the framework of quantum field theory, the polarization tensor in a constant external magnetic field was studied (for supercritical magnetic field). It was obtained that the difference between the refractive indices of the anomalous and normal waves linearly depends on the magnetic field. Also the amplitude of the photon propagation with sequential production and annihilation of an electron-positron pair into one photon is calculated. It is shown that when the initial photon is polarized along and perpendicular to the magnetic field, the initial photon does not change its polarization.
