The main goal of research is to document connections between natural environmental processes and adaptations to them by humans who settled the region over the last 25,000 years. Research methods involve an interdisciplinary approach enabling us to generalize, integrate, and compare natural science data with human history and culture and, therefore, generate new approaches for a comprehensive study of the NWBS. For the first time in Ukrainian science, a phased relationship has been established linking fluctuations in climate, Black Sea level, and coastline migration with human adaptation and cultural development during the entire existence in the region of anatomically modern humans based on new paleohydrologic, paleogeographic, and tectonic data along with the latest archaeological and historical data. Basic models of population adaptation and dynamic cultural change have been developed to improve our understanding of early human responses to climate change. This research contributes to the international project UNESCO-IUGS-IGCP 610 and others (http://onu.edu.ua/en/structure/faculty/ggf/geo_sea/; http://archaeology-ethnology.onu.edu.ua), and this international impact is reflected in numerous publications.
