Research objects - adsorbents - natural and modified layer silicates; modifiers - cationic surface-active substances; adsorbates - water, anionic dyes, short-chain surfactants, humate. Methods of research - preparative, calorimetry, structural sorption, spectral, quantum chemical, molecular statistics. Equipment - spectrophotometer, high-sensitive calorimeter Tiana-Calve Ms-70, difractometer Bruker AXS D8, laboratory tensiometer, personal computer. Theoretical and practical results - the influence of CaCl2 and sodium dodecyl sulphate on the sorption of humate at natural kaolinite is studied. It is shown that the studied components enhance the adsorption and affect the mechanism of sorption of humate on kaolinite. The ab initio calculations are used to study the reaction of the transfer of hydrated complex comprised of the cationic and anionic surfactant from the state at which the complex is adsorbed on the surface cation of layer silicate to the state at which the complex exists in aqueous solution. It is shown that the studied systems predominantly exist in the state in which the hydrated anion-cation complex is adsorbed at the surface of layer silicate. The processes of adsorption and desorption of water molecules from gaseous phase onto the specially modified samples of Kovdor vermiculite with various contents of long-chained surface active cations and sodium in the exchange complex of the mineral are studied. It is shown that, in contrast to an expected increase of the hydrophobicity, the samples of organomodified vermiculite modified by cetylpyridinium exhibit quite high affinity with respect to water molecules. It is found that the vermiculite with double-layer trans-packing of intersilicate gaps by cetylpyridinium cations contains higher amount of water in the adsorption monolayer. The dependence of the surface tension of water on the adsorption of hydrocarbons of different structure is studied. The similarities of the adsorption of these hydrocarbons on the surface of layer silicates are found, which are explained by the similarity of the variation of energetic and enthalpic characteristics of adsorption in both types of systems. Novelty - for the first time the characteristic features of the behaviour of studied systems during the adsorption on the surface of layer silicates. Efficiency of implementation - the advantages are revealed of the practical application of organomodified vermiculite for the improvement of water quality. Field of use - environment protection.
