The aim of the work is to increase the functionality of diamond grinding wheels on metal bonds by developing design and technological grounds and technical solutions, the practical implementation of which ensures the ability to grind hard-to work and other materials with such tools accompanied by the initiation of the electrical effects in the cutting zone on universal machines without special modernization of such machines. Methodology of the investigation is a full-scale laboratory experiment with technologically multivariant realization of the operations of forming electrically insulating coatings of metal mounting surfaces of body of diamond grinding wheels with determination of indicators of dielectric and geometric quality of obtained coatings using modern instruments of hardware check, analysis of results, creation and testing of experimental laboratory samples of diamond- abrasive tool in diamond-spark grinding on universal machine and the definition of scientific recommendations for the design and production technology on this base. The main results are a system of technical solutions, useful models, investigated laboratory check test piece of metal body and diamond abrasive tools in its full form, bases of experimental data and intermediate conclusions on the implementation of dielectric protection of mounting surfaces of diamond grinding wheels in tooling and machining industries. Practical demand, expected implementation, economic efficiency and significance of work at its completion according to the feedback of V. Bakul Institute for Superhard Materials of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, PJSC "Poltava diamond tool" and PJSC "Kharkiv Machine-Building Plant"Svet Shakhtyora"are connected with tool production and machining segments of industry, as well as with the development of the content of the profile training process in institutions of higher technical school, in particular NTU "KhPI". Conclusions regarding the development of test subject and the expediency of continuation of research - carried out investigations on tool development improvement and the expansion the technological capabilities of technical grinding systems on this basis in general, according to the results of the first year of a two-year project, are appropriate to achieve its ultimate goal, and the continuation of research is expedient.
