The subject (purpose) of the study was to identify the main driving forces and mechanisms of historical development of the fauna and flora of the study area on the example of selected groups of organisms. Within Ukraine, various model regions, including two mountainous regions, as well as hills and flat regions of the west of Ukraine, are selected for research. In addition, the study was conducted in the latitudinal gradient of climatic conditions. As a result of the research conducted, a comparative analysis of existing information on the study of model groups of flora and fauna of certain regions of Ukraine was conducted, museum collections were investigated, 18 new taxa of Collembola, Nematoda, Insecta and Agnatha were described, and existing electronic databases were supplemented. As a result of the implementation of this stage, 46 scientific works were published, including 1 electronic catalog, 30 articles and 15 materials of conferences. A book (electronic network) edition of "Catalog of freshwater mollusks of Ukraine" was prepared. At this stage of the implementation of scientific topic was confirmed the hypothesis that the drift of the continents was an important factor in the formation of fossil faunas of Central Europe and, in particular, Ukraine. As a result of the conducted research it was revealed that the main mechanisms of the formation of modern fauna and flora of Ukraine were: macroclimate influence, regional biogeographical and ecological obstacles, anthropochory, phylocenogenesis, competition, availability of potential econishes and other local environmental factors.
