The purpose of the work is improvement technology of corundum ceramics. The research methods are chemical, petrographic, physic mechanical ones. The influence of one-stage and multi-stage firing in the temperature range up to 1580 °C and the short and long firing regime at the optimum temperature of corundum ceramics, produced by slip casting method by drainage and bulk methods, on its physical and mechanical properties were carried out. It was established that, after multi-stage firing the corundum ceramics are characterized by higher properties and irrespective of the firing regime at optimum temperature its properties satisfy the requirements of technical specification. By petrographical researches the corundum ceramics sintering after one-stage and multi-stage firing, as well as the structure of corundum ceramics firing by short and long firing regimes were carried out. It is established that, after the firing in the temperature range from 200 to 1200 °C, significant differences in the structure of corundum ceramics made by drainage or bulking methods are not observed. After firing at a temperature of 1300-1450 °С the average pore size decreases, that indicates the beginning of the sintering process, which is intensified at 1500 °C. The method of manufacturing corundum ceramics and its firing regime at optimum temperature does not significantly influence on its structure, but corundum ceramics after long firing regime, are characterized by large densely sintered Al2O3 grains. In accordance with the existing normative documentation on pilot plant of JSC "The URIR named after A.S. Berezhnoy" the pilot batches of high refractory products were produced.
