Object of the research - multicultural features of modern English in cognitive-discursive aspects, semantic and expressive features in different types of the English language discourse, a multi-lingual approach in teaching foreign languages and the method of solving multicultural problems in the English-speaking world picture. The purpose of the work is to investigate the current, insufficiently studied problems of the modern English language linguistics and to define the principles and peculiarities of its structure and mechanisms for the formation of its linguistic units in a cognitive, functional, pragmatic space taking into account the multi-lingual component. Methods of the research - functional-semantic, stylistic, semantic, conceptual, component, contextual, corpus, discursive, morphological, quantitative analysis; method of dictionary definitions and interpretation; structural method; continuous sampling method. Theoretical and practical results: it has been determined that multi-lingual competence is not only an alternative way of studying the language, but also the way of mastering special knowledge, values of the world culture and development of social and communicative abilities of the individual. The involvement of authentic sources influences the best development of a foreign language, as well as provides students with valuable information about the history, cultural traditions of the country of the studied language, allows to understand the modern lifestyle of people, and thus develop not only multi-lingual but also intercultural competence. Novelty: traditional use of fiction literature for the development of communicative skills in the study of a foreign language and a relatively new phenomenon of purposeful improvement of intercultural knowledge on the material of literature were investigated. Effectiveness of the use: the results of the research were implemented in the educational process of the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, the English Language Department, in the teaching of special courses "Sociolinguistics", "Multi-lingual education in the modern European space", "The theory of intercultural communication and the actual problems of linguistics of native, main and the second foreign languages ". The results of the scientific research can be used in educational process with the purpose of raising the level of lexical, discursive and culturological competence of educators. Sphere (area) of use - research and experimental development in the field of social sciences and the humanities.
