The effect of stresses on the integrity of the modified surface layer, which was created by XTO by thermal diffusion processing of the material in oxygen - and nitrogen-containing media, was studied. Preloading of samples in the condition of delivery and after XTO does not lead to a significant change in the weight of the samples, their tension diagrams, acoustic emission parameters, level hydrogenation during oxidation processes at a temperature of 550 ° C for 120 hours and process of hydrogen absorption at a temperature of 450 ° C for 2:00 . It has been shown that the modification of the surface of solid tubes from Zr1% Nb alloy by HTO is one of the effective methods for reducing the influence of causes that lead to the degradation of the properties of the metal of the fuel tube. The advantage of the developed method of increasing the life of the fuel cladding is the possibility of using it in the existing technology by changing the heat treatment environment at the final stage of tube production.
