When the critical threshold electric field strength is reached, the oscillations experience a modified decay, which is accompanied by the generation of low-frequency ion oscillations. The plasma ions are accelerated under the low-frequency oscillations. Such excitation of oscillations may heat both electronic and ionic plasma component.
