Objective of the research is to study regularities of the development and functioning of the modern Slavic languages at all the level of language systems. We have applied complex methodology: 1) theoretical methods - analysis of scientific linguistic literature on the problem under consideration; 2) general-scientific methods - induction, deduction, analysis, synthesis; 3) linguistic methods - descriptive, contextual-interpretational, observation; 4) empiric methods - linguistic modeling, discourse-analysis; 5) methods of mathematical statistics (if it is necessary). Scientific novelty of the study is in the facts that it: 1) specifies and deepens the idea of developing of modern languages as a result of the action and counteraction of dynamic tendencies to globalization, internationalization, language economy on the one hand, and nationalization, autochthonization, detailization of linguistic means on the other hand; 2) substantiates theoretically the innovative approach to the phenomenon of univerbation in the modern Slavic languages and proves its universal character; 3) substantiates theoretically and evaluates practically the methodologies to study regularities of the development of the Slavic languages, i.e. methodologies of linguistic modeling of the material under research; 4) makes great contribution into the improvement of metalanguage to study lexis, word formation, and syntax. Results of the study and conclusions may be used for further research concerning the regularities of the development and functioning of the modern Slavic languages, in educational process to increase the level of students' learning competence, while developing syllabi and optional courses, during in-class learning and while working on course and diploma papers. Prediction assumptions as for the development of the object of study are as follows: in-depth study of both the communication processes and their lingual manifestations in the modern Slavic languages.
