Purpose – to create an effective association of bacteria of the genus Azospirillum with wheat plants. Research methods: microbiological, biochemical, molecular-genetic, gasochromatographic and methods of mathematical statistics. Nitrogen-fixing bacteria were isolated from the spring wheat root zone, the phenotypic signs of new strains were studied. Using molecular-genetic methods, allowed to determine the species of bacteria as Azospirillum brasilense. It is shown that a new strain with a high nitrogenase activity is characterized by the ability to produce biologically active substances and is capable of causing a reverse response of wheat plants after inoculation. Using kanamycin- and streptomycin-resistant mutants allowed the ability of azospiril to maintain life activity in the root zone of wheat during the growing season. The positive effect of inoculation of wheat seeds by A. brasilense 137 on the structural indicators of the yield of a given crop is shown in the conditions of field experience. Bacterization also contributed to an increase in yield compared to control by 12-19%.
