The sporophyte growth and development control was found to involve the cytokinins, IAA, gibberellins and ABA. Functional features (including species specificity of qualitative composition and dynamics of distribution during the development and poly-functionality, conjugation, the pattern of inter-hormonal interaction) were identified that testifies to the evolutionary affinity between the higher vascular cryptogams and seed plants, and enables to characterize the pteridophytes as a sisterly group closest to flowering plants, the optimal concentrations of exogenous phytohormones required for spore germination and gametophyte development in the fern investigated species in culture in vitro were determined.
