The purpose of the study is to develop a scientific and methodological basis for assessing the level of foreign economic security of the country, taking into account the integration into the global value chains. On the basis of the analysis of international trade indicators of Ukraine for 2011-2017, the main problems of foreign economic activity that threaten the economic security of the country are identified. A study of the theoretical basis of the development of global value chains has shown that the integration has both significant advantages and creates additional risks for the developing country. On the basis of the experience of international organizations and different countries of the world, the approach to the trade in value added assessment for Ukraine was proposed and their calculation was made according to the data for 2013, 2014 and 2016. An approach to the estimation of Ukraine's foreign economic security, which provides the opportunity to identify hidden risks when integrating the country into global production and distribution chains and takes into account the indicators of balance, level of technology and trade in value added is developed. Estimates for Ukraine for 2014 and 2016 are calculated and it is shown that the state of foreign economic security is characterized as satisfactory. The results of scientific research are used in the practical activity of Association of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in Kharkiv region is a regional branch of the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. Forecast proposals on promising areas of research - an assessment of expediency of inclusion of the country in the global value chains with consideration of the criteria of foreign economic security.
