The aim of our work is to generalize the “traditional” method of thermochemical recuperation, developed by the authors earlier, to determine thermodynamic and technical-and-economic characteristics of recuperation schemes for different heat engines and industrial furnaces, and to develop recommendations as to the introduction of this technology. We have analyzed restrictions of the traditional method of thermochemical recuperation and developed software for calculating the evolution of state of a reacting gas mixture of arbitrary composition and using the enthalpy of cooling of high-temperature elements of thermal facilities. We also created a package of applied programs for the calculation of thermodynamic and technical-and-economic characteristics of schemes of thermochemical recuperation for heat engines and industrial furnaces and carried out wide numerical investigations. The basic result of our work lies in the following: practically for all variants of calculations, the investments to reforming facility are quite low, and, therefore, the pay-back period of investments has the order of several months. Thus, our calculations confirm that thermochemical recuperation is an advisable variant of using secondary energy resources: enthalpy of flue gases and cooling of high-temperature facilities.
