Yuriev popup.description2 The purpose of the project was to enrich and use the gene pool (genetic diversity) of corn and sunflower; to identify accessions - sources and donors of valuable economic traits that are characterized by high adaptability to changing weather conditions; to ensure long-term storage of seeds of the gene pool accessions; to create a gene pool information system. A collection of corn comprising 6,534 accessions and a collection of sunflower comprising 647 accessions were formed. 98% of corn accessions and 99.7% of sunflower accessions are certified. Fifty eight corn lines, which are sources of drought resistance and rapid grain drying, were created. Basing on the 2016-2018 results, we formed and registered at the National Center for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine a working collection of food corn varieties, a working collection of corn lines - sources of high performance and its components with high combining ability, a core collection of sunflower varieties, a working collection of sunflower lines - sources of valuable economic traits with high combining ability. Seven corn lines - sources of valuable economic traits, 6 sunflower varieties were created. During the reporting period of 2016-2018, 414 packages of corn accessions were transferred to research, breeding institutions and educational institutions, 336 of them inside Ukraine, 13 to foreign countries. Twenty four packages of sunflower accessions were transferred to research institutions in Ukraine. In 2018, 24 corn accessions and 8 sunflower accessions were used in the breeding process. High-lysine corn F1 hybrid Twister, sugar variety Nika, grain corn hybrids Orion, Variah, Sherp, Liubochka, Bolid, Vektor, sunflower hybrid Nasoloda were created in partnership. Certificates of authorship were received for confectionery sunflower hybrids Shumer and Atlet.
