The study purpose was to create new varieties, which by the main economically valuable characteristics would be superior to the existing ones. The study methods – conventional methods. In 2016-2018, the breeding material of spring hard wheat and emmer with a set of valuable economic traits was created and assessed. Intra- and inter-species crossings were carried out in an amount of 178 combinations in order to create original starting material derived from Triticum aestivum, T. dicoccum, T. durum and amphipidoid Tritordeum. The features of selection of parents upon generating emmer starting material with the maximum amount of carotenoid pigments, in particular, the need to use as lines of hard wheat with a carotenoid content not lower than 3.7 mg/kg as male forms, were established. Methodological approaches to the creation of hard wheat varieties with a carotenoid pigment content over 5 mg/kg and vitreousness not lower than 80% were devweloped. According to the plan, spring hard wheat varieties Ksantiia and Meissa and spring emmer variety Yunika were submitted to the state variety trials. Emmer variety Romanivska and spring soft wheat variety Barvysta enriched the Register of varieties suitable for use in Ukraine. As of 2018, there are 11 spring wheat varieties bred at the Plant Production Institute nd. a. VYa Yuriev and 2 spring wheat varieties varieties created in collaboration with VN Remeslo Myronivka Institute of Wheat in the Register of varieties suitable for use in Ukraine. The economic effect from the implementation of new spring wheat varieties will be at least 1500 UAH/ha due to an increase in the grain yield by 0.3 t/ha. The use of spring hard wheat grain with high quality indicators will enhance the nutritional value of pasta and groats.
