The surfaces of the bodies are assumed to be hydrophobic, i.e. the liquid does not wet them. Under the action of surface tension, the liquid localizes in those parts of the gaps where their height is the largest and forms bridges between the surfaces of the bodies. The remainder of each gap is filled with a gas pressure of which equals the external atmospheric pressure. The surface of the rigid body is textured by a periodic array of grooves of small height and identical shape (rectangular or quasi-elliptical). The effects of the applied pressure and the surface tension of the liquid on the contact pressure of the surfaces, the height of the gaps, the width of the gas-filled and liquid-filled regions of the gaps, as well as the contact approach and contact compliance of the bodies are taken into account. It has been established that as the surface tension of the liquid increases, contact approach and contact compliance of the bodies decrease; an increase in the magnitude of the surface tension of the liquid can cause 45% increase in the pressure of the liquid. The research results are of current importance for tribology, mechanical engineering, geophysics, biomechanics, as well as micro- and nano-electro-mechanical systems development.  Product Description popup.authors popup.nrat_date 2020-04-02 Close
