The character of the distribution of these defects on a crystal of size by10-50 μm in the given optimal conditions of growth is established. Sapphire crystals with an admissible number of micro and macropores and homogeneity of their distribution in the crystal have been obtained to provide the required transmittance in the range of 1-5 μm. Samples of sapphire windows of rectangular shape of two sizes are made and precision machining of their surfaces is made. The technique of precision processing of a rectangular sapphire surface in the size up to 200 mm x 135 mm has been developed and samples of windows of optical devices according to the specification are made.
