Object of research is the South East as a region of Ukraine as a complex of its socio-cultural, economic and geographic characteristics. Analysis of civilization breach processes in Southeast Ukraine requires the use of scientific methods combined with specific methods of scientific knowledge. The novelty of methods and means of research is the interdisciplinary nature of the topic, which involves the use of specially-historical, sociological, political and cultural (synergistic approach that allows to evaluate trends in the development of complex social political systems) methods. Also the method of geopolitical analysis with an emphasis on highlighting the processes of "internal politics" is used in the study. Theoretical and methodological approaches to defining the essence of the processes occurring in the territory of the South-East Ukraine had been improved; background and causes of the current political socio-economic, cultural and geopolitical crisis in the Donetsk region were systematized; the analysis of ethnic, gender, socio-stratigraphic, factors in urban development was conducted. Types of separatism were classifed, the basic premise of his appearance, suggested potential ways to overcome, including: implementation practices consocial democracy and cross-border cooperation within European regions. The results of the research are implemented in the work of public authorities and Mariupol State University.
