History of Ukrainian art has plenty of blank spots. The reason is the lack of conditions for successive research activities and approbation of the results. It is also to do with the absence of institutional contemporary art collections in public museums and limited access to private collections. Within the framework of the current project the working group outlined the major tendencies in the development of Ukrainian art of the 2nd part of the XX century and the 1st part of the XXI century. The 4 primary periods of development have been designated. The 1st covers 1954-1968: “Khrushchev Thaw and the Sixtiers”. The 2nd covers 1968-1985: “Brezhnevian Stagnation and the Seventiers”. The 3rd covers 1985-2004: “Reformation period and Freedom from the State”. And the 4th covers 2004-2014: “Between two revolutions: self-organisation and institutional movement”. The choice of the artists and the artworks is justified by their importance for the historical context and the corresponding art process. Main research results are as follows: A complex general overview of the development of Ukrainian art from 1954 to 2014 has been created. The periodisation of contemporary art in the Ukrainian context has been proposed and justified. All the necessary information has been collected and an approval to cooperate on the creation of the integrated digital corpus of Ukrainian modern art has been got from owners of private and national collections. The scientific concept of a museum of modern art has been developed relying on the last research. An attempt to define key figures and works, which have determined the contemporary artistic process in Ukraine, has been made relying on previous researches.
