The object of study was Taras Shevchenko literary heritage and Shevchenko’s source base (documents, memoirs, etc.). The aim of the research topic consisted in comprehensive study the perception and interpretation of Shevchenko's creative works in the critique of the XIX and XX centuries (including foreign ones). The research based on modern literary methodology: hermeneutic, cultural and comparative-historical, receptive and textual-analytical methods. Thanks to researchers the reception of Shevchenko personality and creativity in the first year after his death were deeply studied. A particular direction of scientific activity of the department was the study of Shevchenko's prose, historical memory, the heritage of several a little known Shevchenko’s scholars as M. Novytskyi, M. Sumtsov and others. The research of Shevchenko's diary continues in the aspects of genealogy and poetic. All tasks are finished. The 5–6th volumes, wich completed the edition of the capital "Shevchenko Encyclopedia", summed the development of more than half a century of Shevchenko's studies and outlined the prospects for further studies.
