The purpose of the work is to evaluate the informative efficiency of the use of the polarization-optical method in the study of the stress-strain state of flat discs with openings at external contact peripheral heating. The research method is polarizing optical. The informative efficiency of the methods for determining the parameters of the stress-strain state of elastic constructions can only be determined by carrying out real-life field experiments. In the present paper, a polarization-optical method was used to solve the problem. This method involves the production of a real physical model of the object of investigation, followed by the execution of a complex of works using a polarization-optical installation. In total, the thermo-stress state of more than ten models was investigated. The obtained results, which speak of a fairly high informative efficiency of the polarization-optical method in the investigation of the thermo-stress state of the models. The report describes the technology of manufacturing models, a method for determining the price of the strip of optically sensitive material. A distinctive feature of the report is the presence in it of a relatively large number of real photographs of bands, isochroms and isoclins in various types of openings and slots. Graphs of distribution of radial and tangential normal stresses in peripheral rings of models are presented. As a result of this work, the prognostic assumption of a fairly high informative efficiency of the polarization-optical method in the study of the thermo-stress state of elastic structures - models from optically active material has been confirmed.
