Within the framework of grants from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for research laboratories and research groups of young scientists, the first wave of the survey of the project "Horizontal ties of Donbass residents across the demarcation line: potential for deoccupation and reintegration" - The first wave of research was conducted. The purpose of the study is to identify the existing potential and prospects for the deoccupation and reintegration of uncontrolled parts of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts by studying the degree and types of horizontal interpersonal connections between the residents of the Donbas across the demarcation line. 2. During the first wave of the survey, 809 respondents were interviewed in the controlled areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, which are near the demarcation line, including the so-called "gray zones". 3. 29% of respondents answered that they have relatives in temporarily uncontrolled territories of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Another 28% said they had close friends there. 4. The absolute majority of those who have relatives and / or friends in uncontrolled territories claim to support communication with them - 80% and 77% respectively. The main means of communication are mobile phones (66% and 54%), messengers (24% and 31%), Skype (21%), social networks (15% and 21%), e-mail (5% and 6% ) 5. More than half of those who have relatives in uncontrolled territories of the Donbas, declare that they communicate with them quite often - at least once a week. The majority of the respondents (65%) assert that during this communication, the views of their relatives and uncontrolled territories almost always or almost always coincide.
