Depending on the intended purpose of engineering geological surveys, the characteristics of the investigated environment, the methods involved, the number and procedure for sampling for the next analysis is laid down. Engineering and geological surveys include the field and camera methods in their composition, the list, scope and order of which are regulated by numerous normative documents. They usually specify the type of necessary laboratory work, which includes classification, testing, measuring procedures, justifies the feasibility of performing work on the definition of changes in soil properties, modeling the work of soil massifs, etc. An important component of engineering geological research at the stage of reconnaissance and research is the selection of a rational complex and the calculation of the optimal number of laboratory tests. According to normative documents, the number of tests and their functional content depends on the degree of heterogeneity of soils, the impact of dangerous geological processes, the level of responsibility of the projected structure, the necessary accuracy of the determination of soil characteristics and taking into account the experience of previous works. In the work, an analysis of existing methods for determining the number of samples for engineering-geological surveys in different conditions has been carried out. The analysis of existing methods of statistical tests of geological hypotheses in the framework of one-dimensional (parametric and nonparametric) models is carried out. They have been checked in the field conditions in determining the soil properties in the natural setting.
