The subject of the study is the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, its movable and immovable monuments, as well as the Kyiv museum institutions that existed in or were related to its activity. The purpose of this work is to highlight the main stages of birth, development and transformation of Kyiv museums – both ecclesiastical and secular under the influence of external circumstances; to investigate the institutional and personal dimensions of the monumental and museum work of Ukraine at the end of the 19th – the first half of the 20th century, paying particular attention to the fate of the church monuments associated with the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. A wide array of written sources and existing national and foreign historiography is involved. Method of research – the basis of the work is based on the general scientific principles of historicism, comprehensiveness and objectivity, complexity and systematic nature. For realization of the set tasks, researchers use both the basic methods of historical research (archival heuristics, historical source studies, classification and criticism of sources, comparative-historical, problem-chronological, retrospective), as well as general scientific methods of formal logic.
