Purpose: to study a number of important problems that characterize the peculiarities of the combination / confrontation of two civilizational paradigms - Eastern and Western - in the territory of Ukraine: social constituents of state formation in Ukraine in the context of integration into European structures; Ukraine's agriculture and world food space; regional development in the context of transboundary impacts; problems of autonomy, separatism in Europe and the post-Soviet space. At the same time, the emphasis will be on the study of these problems in terms of an inter-civilizational approach. Research methods. The methods of history, historiography and related socio-humanities (political science, sociology, cultural anthropology, etc.) will be used in the research work. The results of three years of work are reflected in the publications of employees of the department.
