The experience of regional and national assessments of biodiversity and ecosystem services in a number of countries, primarily EU countries, has been analyzed and proposals have been developed to provide such an assessment in Ukraine. A package of adapted educational and methodological materials on the assessment of ecosystem services (except for the territories of the nature reserve fund) has been developed for practical use and dissemination among interested organizations and institutions. The international experience for taking into account the results of the ecosystem services assessment in the decision-making process is generalized. Proposals have been developed for legislation aimed at stimulating the implementation of an ecosystem approach in all sectors with a potential impact on biodiversity and ecosystems. The following stages of conducting research and normative initiatives for evaluating biodiversity and ecosystems, which provide the basic ecosystem services, preservation and restoration of their functions, are substantiated; integrating biodiversity assessment and ecosystem services into national, regional and sectoral planning systems.
