The study is conducted at the intersection of sociolinguistics, linguistic law, linguistic policy and linguistic ecology, which made it possible to analyze a wide range of issues related to regulation of linguistic relations, status correlation of languages, usage of languages and improvement of the linguistic standard, that concern the Ukrainian society today. Therefore, a multidimensional analysis of linguistic situation in Ukraine was carried out. The basic point is that a state language is one of the determining factors for geopolitical security of a state, therefore Ukraine should clearly define and protect its own language borders. In order to ensure the reliability of the study, a sociological survey was conducted. Kyiv residents were interviewed about their language preferences, language practices, and the perception of corpus changes that Ukrainian literary language is undergoing today. During the study, a contemporary ethno-linguistic landscape of Ukraine was described, an analysis of dynamic of its linguistic policy and linguistic legislation, etc. was carried out. The linguistic policy of Ukraine is showed in pan-European context, the main models of linguistic regulation in Europe are analyzed and possible consequences of their adoption in Ukrainian realities are outlined. The results of the study will be useful for linguists, sociologists, language planners, a wide range of educators and anyone interested in regulating of linguistic relations in society and abidance of linguistic rights of citizens in Ukraine. In addition, it contains scientific explanations for the widespread stereotypes around linguistic issue in Ukrainian society, which may be useful in counteracting the manipulations around it.
