The aim of the studies is the search for the compounds with optimal hydrogen-sorption properties (high volumetric and gravimetric hydrogen capacity, stability in time and in wide range of external conditions, reversibility of hydrogenation process etc.) and the derivation of the algorithms of directed modification of these properties. The samples of the composition Ho2Ni2-xIn (x = 0-0.3), Ho2Ni2InxX1-x (X = Al, Ga, Sn, Sb), and Rm+nTm+nGan (R = rare-earth metal, T = Co, Ni; m = 1, 2; n = 1) were synthesized and selected representatives were studied in the course of hydrogenation. The hydrides of the compounds Ho2Ni1.7In, Ho2Ni2In0.9Al0.1 (Mo2FeB2 structure type), Tb2Co2Ga, Tb2Ni2Ga (W2CoB2 structure type), and Tb3Co3Ga (W2CoB2 structure type) were synthesized. The impact of hydrogenation on the crystal structure of intermetallics was determined by X-ray structure analysis. The thermal stability of the obtained hydrides and the peculiarities of the hydrogen desorption were studied. The favorable impact of Al-doping on the hydrogenation dynamics and an important role of d-metal content in final hydride composition were illustrated on the example of Mo2FeB2-type compounds. For the compounds of the structure series Rm+nTm+nGan the role of the nature of d-metal affecting hydrogenation properties was shown.
