These trangenics were selected on selective media and the ScTPS2 gene was detected in their DNA as a result of PCR analysis. There was no difference in trehalose content between the control and transgenic plants both under physiological growth conditions and water deficit. The transgenic lines were more tolerant to osmotic stress as compared to the controls but were characterized by lower growth and smaller sizes. The first transgenic generation was obtained after in planta transformation of Triticum aestivum using eight winter varieties of Ukrainian breeding as a background.
