Depending on the nature of the substituents, these dyes increase the emission intensity by up to 60-fold in the presence of fibrillar aggregates, while being less sensitive to native proteins. Sensitivity to amyloid aggregates depends on both the amino group substituents and the nature of the aryl groups. The effect of tetraphenyl porphyrins, including amino and carboxy substituted, on amyloid aggregation of insulin was studied. The most pronounced effect on the kinetics of the reaction of insulin aggregation was found for tetra (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin - a decrease in the intensity of insulin aggregation by about 90%.
