Usikov Institute for Radiophysics and Electronics NAS of Ukraine popup.description2 Theoretical and experimental research methods have been developed for studying the interaction processes between the sub-terahertz and terahertz radiation and various type structures (metamaterial periodic boundaries, layered anisotropic dielectric media, resonant systems wіth spatially developed electron beams, etc.). Essential laws underlying these processes and characteristic phenomena assocіated with them have been investigated. Based on the fundamental research, prototypes of small-size generators, power dividers, and devices for electromagnetic wave channeling and radiation have been рerformed. A thorough investigation has been given to the phenomenon of polarization plane change in the case of perforated gratings and plane linearly polarized wave incidence and in the case of waveguides with chiral diaphragms with the square or circular waveguide basic mode incident. New waveguide devices have been suggested for the polarization plane rotation and for the mode filtration. Dielectric parameters of artificial diamonds and ceramics have been experimentally studied in the GHz frequency range. Excitation conditions of the GHz multi-frequency generation of clinotrons have been determined. The resonant character of oscillations excited in a clinotron has been revealed even when the surface-wave attenuation in the TGz region is substantial. A clinotron theoretical model has been developed considering the surface wave power loss caused by the roughness of the electrodynamic system surface and by the heat load caused by the electron beam deposition on system elements. Using the external feedback loop, the stabilization parameters of the working frequency and the radiation power have been determined for a TGz clistron, the requirements of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy with dynamic polarization of nuclei satisfied.
