The theoretical analysis, numerical and laboratory simulations were used when researching. Space-time characteristics of the vortex field generated by the solitary wave travelling over underwater structures were obtained. They show that the interaction of waves with underwater obstacles consists on the development of a shear layer, the generation and interaction of large-scale vortex structures and the formation of local currents near the surface irregularities.
