The purpose of the work is to determine the influence of mineral and organic fibers on the flame retardant efficiency and performance properties of epoxy intumescent flame retardants coatings. The research methods are IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, fire and accelerated climatic tests. The influence of different nature fibers on the thermal and flame retardant properties of the intumescent systems ammonium polyphosphate/melamine/ pentaerythritol and ammonium polyphosphate / melamine / boric acid with the participation of epoxy resin and nanomaterials (montmorillonite nanoglue and thermoglyphic graphite) and thermosetting graphite has been investigated. It has been shown that the best results in flame retardant performance with high values of the limit of metal fire resistance are demonstrated by an intumescent system of ammonium polyphosphate / melamine / boric acid containing nanocomposite epoxy resin with montmorillonite and mineral aluminosilicate fiber additionally. Epoxy resin based intumescent systems have been found to be highly resistant to water and have an estimated operation life of over 15 years. The obtained results allow us to determine the most optimal intumescent basis of fire retardant paint for steel structures, which can be applied to increase the limit of fire resistance of metal in conditions of hydrocarbon fire.
