A generalized description of the emergence and transformation of regions and regional consciousness in Ukraine is made, and it is shown that the complex processes of historical development of Ukrainian territories and peoples that lived on it caused the heterogeneity of the regional structure, the segmentation and heterogeneity of the society, the fragmentation of Ukraine's political personality. All these ultimately complicated the processes of social consolidation and intercultural communication in the period of Ukrainian state formation. Installed that the system of regions in modern Ukraine is underdeveloped, a considerable number of its are characterized by a low level of integrity and situationalism, which results in the overall territorial and social imbalance of the Ukrain's regional system with a high degree of hyphenism. Based on the research results, a map of the regional structure of Ukraine in the context of the interaction of social identities and group loyalties is drawn. It is stated that in view of the impact of regionalism on the socio-political situation in Ukraine after the Euromaidan (2013-2014) and the events that followed it, it is clear that Ukraine has a new political geography.
