A great number of new archaeological data on history of Kyiv and vicinity were systematized during new field research as well as previously excavated. For the first time in the history of national archeological science, a source database was developed and formed, inextricably linked in a single complex with a specially developed cartographic geographical information system (archaeological map) of monuments discovered within the modern territory of Kyiv. The database, formed as a result of the R&D, opens up new opportunities for a comprehensive study of Kyiv and its district in terms of its original settlement, determining the development of the city, forming a system of mass housing development, assessing demographic potential, analyzing the ethno-cultural specificity of the population of the medieval urban environment. This allows us to significantly update the established views and existing concepts of the historical development of the city of Kyiv and its district in ancient times and the Middle Ages. The archaeological sites database obtained as a result of the R&D can become the basis of the program for accounting and preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the Ukrainian capital and its district.
