New system scientific results regarding the effect of alfa-solid solution strengthening with silicon alloying in the range from 2.9 wt.% to 4.6 wt.% on the structure formation and mechanical properties of ductile cast iron in castings are obtained. It is established that silicon alloying effectiveness in mechanical properties improving is determined by the initial melt quality, modifier composition, modifying method and casting cooling rate. Silicon-alloyed ferritic ductile cast iron obtained with modifying in precrystallization period is characterized by high values of strength (Rm from 550 MPa to 620 MPa, Rр0,2 from 420 MPa to 500 MPa) and plasticity (A from 11% to 17 %). In strength values the developed ductile cast iron significantly exceeds the standard, with a silicon from 1.9 wt.% to 2.9 wt.% (DSTU 3925-99), ferritic grades, and in plasticity - ferritic-perlitic. An important advantage of such ductile cast iron is more uniform mechanical properties and hardness distribution in as-cast castings and their machinability improvement. An additional strength increase is provided with nickel or copper alloying enhanced by use of heat treatment - homogenizing annealing with castings unloading from the furnace in the temperature range from 770 °C to 810 °C for ferritic-perlitic metal base obtaining. Alloying with 0.5 % of nickel provides ductile cast iron with a tensile strength Rm more than 550 MPa and a relative elongation A more than 15 %. Alloying with 0.5 % of copper provides a tensile strength Rm from 650 MPa to 700 MPa at relative elongation A more than 10 %.
