The purpose of this work is to develop new and improve existing methods for determination of trace amounts of heavy metals, toxic non-metals and organic volatile and limited-volatile compounds to increase the selectivity, sensitivity and expressiveness of their determination, taking into account the requirements of current regulatory documents. Research methods - spectrophotometric, atomic absorption with flame and electrothermal excitation, mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma, etc. Main results: The radiation aspects of quality of natural and drinking water in Ukraine are considered. A number of sorbents have been investigated for solid phase extraction from aqueous solutions of organic compounds that interfere with the determination of bromide ions. Free radical reactions in aqueous hydrocarbon solutions have been studied. The chemical activity of the hydrocarbonate ion was found to increase significantly after its concentration of ~ 3000 mkmol, which can be considered a critical concentration. A method for determining the concentration and dispersion phase distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in natural water has been developed. The overall toxicity of water contaminated with sublethal concentrations of heavy metals and petroleum products by means of complex biotesting has been investigated.
